Superhero Movies on Steroids

In the summer of 2011, the following superhero movies will be released: Thor, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, and Captain America: the First Avenger.  In the summer of 2012, the following superhero movies have been confirmed and have release dates: The Avengers, Spiderman (rebooted), and the Dark Knight Rises.  In 2013, the following superhero movies have been confirmed and have release dates: Iron Man 3.  And there are plenty more projects such as Superman: Man of Steel, The Wolverine, a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Flash, Green Lantern 2, etc, that are rumored for 2012, 2013 and beyond.  Look…I’m not breaking any news here.  Superhero movies dominate Hollywood right now.  They cost a lot but make a lot.  I myself love the majority of superhero movies today as they are taken with great care and attract talented filmmakers and writers.

But as we approach the next two to three summers of the true superhero movie era, I want to re-watch, and in some cases, watch for the first time all superhero movies up until Thor, which I consider the kick-off to this non-stop superhero movie madness.  I am calling this series Superhero Movies on Steroids.  To determine what films I have to watch I’m going to go with Wikipedia’s superhero film list which seems pretty thorough (the list).  And I’m not messing around.  I will also be looking at all animated films as well.  Everything will be viewed from the good to the bad to the really shitty.  Starting with 1951’s Superman and the Mole Men and working my way to this month’s animated straight to DVD release of All Star Superman, everything will be viewed, analyzed, and reflected on.  And I’m not just talking about quick little reviews.  I will be ranking all these movies on a multitude of categories (directing, acting, fight sequences, music, best dialogue, worst dialogue, and many more).  But most importantly, once all films are viewed, I will rank them from #1 to the very worst as well as give each category a winner.  As we approach the new superhero era of film, it’s time to catch up and lock in 60 years of superhero movies to the present.  As I go along with each film, I will be posting my short review and some category rankings.  I am excited yet frightened at the movies that await me…

Wow that is a mission. Maybe when you’re done watching you can lend you’re opinion to my Marvel/DC debate?

    So…which are you?

You’re going to come across some absolute trash as well as some great movies. I look forward to reading the reviews. 🙂

That’s a pretty big effort. I want you to succeed. I love superheroes, too. (Heck my blog is named UnderwearOutside.) But, maybe you could increase your likelihood of succeeding by breaking up this effort. All the Superman movies, then all the Batman movies, then all the Spidey stuff, etc., etc. Chronologically for all superhero movies just seems like you’d go insane.
